As a brand new homeowner, I want to go deep into the journey of getting to know my money. I’m turning 27 next month which kind of makes me feel like I should start introducing myself as an adult and the one thing adults seems to have mostly figured out is their income. Let’s start with discussing those unnecessary spending habits you need to cut off right now.
6 Unnecessary Spending Habits You Need To Cut Off Right Now
Not sticking to the damn list. This particularly applies to buy groceries. Anytime I go to the shop without a list, I end up buying a bottle of a weird lemonade just because it had a great branding. Raise your hand if you know what I’m talking about!
Associating your free time with spending. I know that having those fancy dinners is quite fun, but you don’t have to do it every Friday, huh? Just go for a walk every once in a while, spend an evening cycling around your beautiful town, visit a free exhibition or visit friends at home. It can be just as fun as trying out that new gourmet place.
Keeping memberships you don’t really use. I’ve got to admit- I’m the guilty one here. I did it all- held my gym subscription even tho I used to go only once a month, I kept my Netflix subscription activated for way too long (and I didn’t even have a TV or enough time to watch any shows for the last 4 months), I’ve paid for apps, courses, phone insurances… Why the heck would I ever chose to pay for something I definitely do not need? It might look like only a few bucks, but eliminating wasted expenses could save you a pretty penny, trust me on this.
Spending your bonuses. I do believe it’s important to treat yourself from time to time, but you shouldn’t think about your extra income as an excuse to spend. Instead, make sure to actually put your bonuses towards savings, you will thank me later!
Buying that daily cup of coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I love coffee, I truly do. However, I try and see a takeaway coffee as a treat rather than a necessity. Rather than hitting up a coffee shop every day, consider investing in a nice coffee maker, even if the price tag is a bit steep — it’ll save you in the long run.
Spending for spending’s sake. I’ve actually learned to take pleasure in living simply and using less. Saving money doesn’t have to be hard. If you find happiness in living simply- you will soon notice yourself finding pleasure in having and using less too.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, friend! Let me know what’s your biggest challenge when it comes to spending your hard earned money!
