Being a blogger can be quite mysterious to those out of the blogging world & I receive various questions about my work daily. In this post, I decided to spill the beans for you and share five secrets about blogging as a business.
There’s no secret that bloggers make money from their online presence. However, every time I mention my profession to new people, almost everyone assumes that bloggers mostly use sponsors for supporting themselves. That’s far from the truth. I love working with my favourite brands on sponsored content, yet I actually rely on a few ways to generate my monthly paycheck.
From various affiliate programmes to create your own products- a blog can help you make a living in a number of unexpected ways. If you’re keen to know how exactly I make money from my own blog, read this post.
Time
This job takes time, guys. Loads of it. Blogging gives you so much freedom & yet when you start blogging full-time- you catch yourself working all the time. There’s no overnight success in this field.
In all honesty, I can’t remember the last time I took a weekend off & at least didn’t check my e-mail. Don’t get me wrong- I love my business to bits & therefore most of the times, I don’t feel like working whatsoever. I still have to admit that I work more than in any other job I ever had.
Thus, if you’re thinking of becoming a blog to run away from the 9 to 5 type of living, don’t be surprised if you actually end up working way more than 8 hours per day.
Equipment
You keep hearing that you don’t need any fancy equipment to start a blog & that’s true. You can start your blog today, in just 5 minutes actually. However, in order to grow it further & start working with your favourite brands, you need to deliver great quality. Make sure to use trustworthy web-hosting services, build a sleek blog design & invest into a proper camera. I’ve been using my iPhone or compact cameras for ages before finally taking a plunge and getting a full-frame DSLR. It might not be the easiest thing to carry around, but it really is a game changer!
Social Media
There’s no right or wrong way to use your social media. Everyone in the first stage of blogging tends to focus on the numbers way too much. You will notice a newbie blogger sharing a new Instagram every hour, but the truth is- more posts do not guarantee more exposure.
These days, I use Instagram to only post once a day Monday to Friday & my stats are better than ever before. Quality over quantity. Always.
Going Viral
Every blogger dreams to write a piece that will go viral around the world & it will bring them an instant success. Let me ruin this picture for you- having your content going viral does not mean a thing.
I mean, it’s great… You get thousands of views to your blog & you might even land a few sponsors or clients. However, in all reality- it won’t change your life for good.
If thousands of random people end up on your blog & you don’t have a strategy to use those views- you won’t get any benefits whatsoever.
Your blog’s growth depends on a daily work, creating a brand & building a community that will stand by you. Focus on that instead of seeking for a quick fame.
Hope you enjoyed this post, folks! Let me know if you have any blogging secrets!
