I’m writing this with a 22-week baby kicking in my womb. It is a very special season in my life, yet I want to be honest with you – managing changes in my body & mind + still focussing on my business goals has been a bit of a challenge. Let me share some of the things you can expect when you’re an expectant business owner.
You Might Not Feel As Motivated As Always
During the first semester, I was exhausted. Lucky me, I didn’t get to deal with the morning sickness, but I definitely took advantage of those extra naps and allowed myself to sleep-in if felt like it. Luckily, I get to work with very supportive people and if I needed to take that minute off for myself, I did have someone covering up for my lack of presence. However, I have to admit that I wasn’t feeling on top of my game for the first few months of my pregnancy & well, just a part of the experience.
I do always try to look at the bright side. Therefore, I feel like due to my lack of motivation I really learned to say ‘no’ to projects and things that do not serve me in the right way. I became a bit picky, but this actually helped me clean up my mind & my schedule which ended up being a great change in my business.
Your Clients Will Understand
The question here is if your clients should actually know about your pregnancy. I have announced me on Instagram, so those that follow me are aware of the change in my life and they’ve been really supportive so far. I do understand that changes in my personal life should not affect the quality of the services I deliver, but I think that pretending that I can do everything on time and then not being able to deliver can do more harm to my business.
Here is why I want to be honest with my clients. I do not bother them with information about my body changes, but as I get closer to my due date, I’m planning to inform them about the time we’ll take off.
Of course, it is up to you decide on how much you want your clients to know about your situation. Perhaps finding someone to cover up for you might be a great idea as well?
Your Work Techniques Might Change
With that baby on the way, you’ll have a lot on your mind. From choosing a changing table to finding some extra time to spend with your loved one, during your pregnancy you will need to learn and schedule your time like a rockstar.
I’m not sugar counting any of this, things will change and so will you, but no matter what, I want to let you know that running a business & enjoying your pregnancy is more than possible. I’ve launched a new business a month before I found out I was pregnant and it’s turning out just fine. I haven’t made any major changes in my work thus far and didn’t receive any complaints from my clients. The important thing is to just remind yourself, that you can do it and you should not be scared to try.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this post, folks! Let me know if you’re an expectant business owner, I’d love to connect!
