Hey there, friends. I am writing this post from my new apartment that we’ve moved into on Monday. This move was a bit of a quick decision I & Tomas have made, but somehow it feels very RIGHT. Let me tell you how we ended up here…
For those following me on my Insta stories, you will know that the ceiling suddenly collapsed in our rental apartment due to the construction work & we had to move suddenly. I mean, very suddenly. Two days after our trip to Iceland, all of our stuff was packed and stuffed into a van. We were out.
We’ve spent the last 3 years living in Vilnius & we took this a sign to try something new & so we did…
Once we’ve realised that our move was inevitable, for some reason, We couldn’t be bothered about looking for a new place in the city again. We felt the need of a fresh air. We wanted to spend this winter differently & felt the urge to move somewhere remote.
The thing is…we desired nature. This is a weird thing to say as we’ve both grown up in the cities, surrounded by big buildings & the mass of people. Yet since the day we’ve started dating almost eight years ago, we always dreamt about spending our days surrounded by nature as much as possible.
Don’t get me wrong, we did enjoy the buzz of the cities we’ve lived in & I can still see ourselves coming back to Vilnius in the future. However, for the next six months, you’ll find us living in Nida, a small resort town in Curonian Spit National Park.
This was a pretty impulsive decision, but we actually discussed the dream about living in this place for quite a few times even before all of this happened. Of course, this was one of those “one day…” ideas that we would set aside with no actual plans on making it happen.
This year was pretty difficult for me & the promise I made to myself in order to get my sh** together was to live in the present more instead of focussing on what might happen in the future. You see, I realised that happiness shouldn’t be something we all postpone for tomorrow it should be something we enjoy right NOW. As soon as we’ve walked into our little apartment few dew metres away from the lagoon, I felt relief. I felt like I’ve been ignoring my inner voice for so long & that I am finally giving it what’s it’s been asking for.
The thing is, I really feel happy here. It is the hardest & the most fulfilling thing to say out loud, but I am. I get to spend way more time outside & I haven’t felt this productive in ages! I am so excited to see what this new adventure will teach us & I am thrilled to have you all by my side for this.
QOTD: Think about a change that could make your life a little easier or better – at least a small change that you’ve been avoiding because you figure the status quo is ‘good enough’. Does anything come to mind?
