I just got back from a four-day trip in North Italy and what can I say- I’m in love…
This trip was pretty spontaneous.
One of my oldest friends is currently residing in Nottingham and instead of visiting each other, we decided to meet up somewhere else in Europe. This is how we ended up flying off to Lombardy Region for four wonderful days.
Bergamo
We arrived in the city of Bergamo Saturday evening where we had a room booked with Antico Ducato. Our lovely host greeted us & gave some very useful tips for getting around town.
We dropped our bags and headed to look for a funicular straight away!
I was seriously impressed by how gorgeous the city of Bergamo really was. We all tend to skip airport towns and head straight to the capitals, but I am so glad we decided to spend our first night in this cosy town.
Bergamo’s old town is simply beyond words. Old architecture mixed with the vibes of a student town makes it an excellent place for a short city break.
For dinner, we visited a local pub where we got to enjoy some classic Italian cuisine and watch football with the locals.
It did get a bit too loud for our old ears tho, so we headed for another stroll around that beautiful old town…
We then ended our evening with a couple of Spritz’s in the Citta Alta centre & it was the perfect end to our first day.
The next morning we packed once again and head over to the railway station to catch our train to Como.
Ever since I saw those beautiful pics of the Como lake on Pinterest, I knew that I have to visit this place one day. I was so excited to learn it was an hour drive from Bergamo.
The day turned out to be SO beautiful. The sun was out & we were ready to take the most out of it. Thus, as soon as we checked in at Albergo Terminus (which was pretty gorgeous by the way), we went off to get some gelato!
With some delicious ice cream in our hands, we had a lovely walk by the lake taking pictures and enjoying this sunny day.
We even took a funicular to enjoy this amazing view from the very top! It was so worth it!
The time simply flew by & before we knew it- it was time for dinner!
We got a table with the lake view (of course) and enjoyed some absolutely delicious pasta! I could eat this every, single day. No joke!
For our third day, we left Como and head over to visit the capital of Lombardy- Milan.
Apparently, Milan Design Week 2017 was taking place in the city and boy it was busy!
I actually didn’t expect much from Milan as I’m not really into big cities, but I was so wrong! The city is so lovely, full of greenery and space for everyone.
We were lucky enough to book an apartment in Via Vivaio which was such a lovely location!
I can really see myself coming back for a proper visit very soon. Surprisingly, I fell in love with Milan straight away & felt a bit sad we only had a day to spend here.
Of course, we ended up shopping as everyone does down here & it was so fun! This was such a cherry on top of our girly getaway!
For dinner, we met up with a couple of friends for dinner at La Vecchia Lira. This place is super cosy and the food was beyond amazing! Definitely worth paying a visit if you’re around! We ended our evening at Deus Cafe Milano for some cocktails and chats!
The next morning we paid a visit to a local bakery for some pastries & cappuccinos before we made our way back to the airport. I felt pretty exhausted after all the walking, but so thankful for everything that has made this trip so special! I can’t wait to go back for longer anytime soon now!
Hope you enjoyed this post, folks! Let me know if you’re planning a trip to Italy anytime soon!
