Recently, I’ve been my biggest enemy and my greatest friend. I’m fighting with my lazy habits and character issues on the daily basis and my inner couch potato could not possibly be controlled without a consistent self-discipline I’m working on.
Whatever we do in life, there are days when we just don’t feel our best. If I could I’d just go, hide under my blanket and sleep through all of the days like this. But I don’t. There are people that just give up and instead of fixing their messes, they just let it slide and don’t do anything to make it better. I’d like to think that I’m different. I hope that I’m strong enough at least to control myself, cause if I’m not… well we’re in deep shit, my friends.
Self-discipline creates self-reliance, which feeds self-confidence. If you know you can rely on yourself to deliver results, you are more likely to aim high in your ambitions.
I believe in self-discipline more than I believe in talent, hard work or luck. During my not that long life, I noticed that when I’m completely in charge of my time & my moods I can do more without having to overwhelm myself. It’s all about time management and being the best possible friend to yourself! Thus, for today I wanted to share some thoughts on the art of discipline. For both- you and I, just so we don’t get off track anytime soon.
WRITE THINGS DOWN.
You probably have thrown away your last notebook after high school, but it might be a good idea to get back to writing down your plans and promises. I look at this as kind of a contract with myself. As soon as I wake up and reach my office, I sit down, write all the things I want to accomplish that day and stick to it. It helps me manage my tasks better and if next morning some of those points are still there, I feel like I disappointed myself.
PLAN AHEAD.
Let me tell you this: self-discipline goes hand in hand with time management. If you plan your time- you will be a master of discipline too. It’s that easy.
MAKE GOOD HABITS A PART OF YOUR ROUTINE.
I confess, this summer I worked out like 3 or 4 times in general and I used all those silliest excuses for not getting into my fitness gear. I’d say to myself ‘I don’t have time for this‘, yet I would spend endless hours in pubs or watching shows I’ve already watched bazillion times before. The truth is, you must dedicate specific time for good habits if you want them to become a part of your routine. You can do a 10min cardio before your morning coffee or read a book before bed instead of watching TV. It’s all in your hands!
HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO.
It gets much easier to discipline yourself if you have things to look forward to. Sign up for a marathon if you wanna give up smoking or book that beach vacation if you’re trying to lose weight. For me, travelling is always the best thing to look forward to! We’re heading to NYC next month and I can feel my motivation being enormous these days. I wanna work harder & do more as I have something incredible coming up!
BE CONSISTENT.
Stick to your routine. Or at least come back as soon as possible if you feel like you lost it. From the very moment of waking up and getting out of bed each morning, through each area of your working day, keep to your promises and it’s gonna pay off, I promise!
Let me know how you deal with yourself, friends?
I know that I’m still on the way to find my best self!
