I love December! It’s the time of the year when I finally find some quality time to spend with the ones I love the most & don’t worry about all the projects left behind. What I love to do the most is take a complete week off from Christmas to New Year’s Eve & take the most out of it. Taking time off is crucial. Especially before all of those adventures, that new year is going to bring our way. Here are some tips + tricks that will help you switch off over this holiday season.
Prepare In Advance
Christmas shopping can be stressful. Especially if it’s done at the very last minute. Be kind to yourself & prepare in advance. Shop as much as you can online. Not only you will avoid the unnecessary madness, but you will also be able to find better deals & compare the prices. Also, check out the gift guides I prepared here & here.
Do Some Work Upfront
If you’re a freelancer, you cannot simply take a few weeks off without worrying about the stage of your business. In times when I feel like I have no time for my blog or design shop, I remember all these points, and I will definitely be following those during the Christmas period. With the right preparation, you’ll be able to enjoy all of that mulled wine without constantly checking your emails.
Allow Yourself To Do Nothing
I love pyjama days. Just before all the Christmas madness kicks in, I allow myself to get enough sleep & do absolutely nothing for a day or two. Thus, starting next week, I’ll be spending less time out and about. There’s nothing that gets you more into the Christmas spirit than a cosy day under the blanket going through all the Christmas movies.
Make a Plan
Making a plan, in general, doesn’t sound very relaxing, but this can help out so much when it comes to Christmas. I love to do my shopping in advance, plan our Christmas Eve & Christmas Days activities, so we don’t end up running from place to place and getting back home feeling tired & overwhelmed. Christmas and guilt do not go very well together, so make a plan for whatever you’re planning to do over the holidays & stick to it.
Leave Technologies Behind
Spending some time without your phone or laptop can do magic to your state of mind.
In general, people spend way less time in front of the screens during Christmas & you should get the most out of this period. If you’re running a blog- you won’t get much traffic or income during these days anyway, so use these days to rewind and dream. Taking some time off is the best thing you can do for yourself & your business. You will get back relaxed & ready to rock!
If you feel like you won’t be able to handle a full week without technology, at least delete e-mail / social media apps from your phone or stop notifications.
Hope you enjoyed this post, folks! Let me know what’s your plan for Christmas this year!
