If you’re freelancer, taking a break can be a bit of a challenge. While others are happily using their holiday days and relaxing, business owners actually have to work ALL the time. However, no matter what our job is, we all need some time off. Working & vacationing on the same time can end up in doing both things poorly and that’s not what we want, right? I’m currently on my way to NYC and my design website & blog will be working fully during my holidays. I always combine work with travelling and it turns out to be lots of fun! Thus today, I’m sharing a few steps that you should follow in order to enjoy your holidays without loosing control over your business:
BLOG + WORK IN ADVANCE.
You will have to do some work in advance, there’s no other way around it. Prepare as many blog posts as you can for the upcoming weeks, finish big projects and be done with all the tasks you were postponing for months. Those unfinished business will be at the back of your head for the whole trip and you should avoid anything like this ruining your vacation.
COMBINE NEW EXPERIENCES WITH WORK.
Take your laptop with you and head to the local coffee shop! You will get your stuff done as well as get to see what it’s like to be an actual citizen of the world. Siting out there, drinking coffee and listening to foreign languages makes me fall in love with my business all over again! I also get inspired by other cultures a lot and love incorporating some of the design elements I come across while abroad.
SCHEDULE & SAVE TIME.
You don’t have to be online constantly to get the word about your business out. There are plenty of tools for you to use in order to schedule your blog posts + social media efficiently. Apply these 10 TIME SAVING HACKS FOR BUSY SOLOPRENEURS, it will help you to schedule your time better & have some extra time for all the touristic attractions!
HAVE RULES.
Set yourself some boundaries. I only check my email in the morning time during my vacation and try to avoid social media as much as possible. Of course, it’s necessary to share snaps from your trip with your followers, but don’t get lost into checking your instagram’s feed or reading all of those tweets, look around & enjoy the world!
UNPLUG.
Holidays is the time for you to disconnect and recharge. Try to get into the vacation mood and enjoy yourself. Have long breakfast, enjoy some wine in the evening, kiss a lot & visit all those cute boutiques you pass by! I know it’s scary to leave your business aside, but if you get some proper rest- your productivity level will boost significantly and you will have some time to reflect on your work & get better.
I enjoyed working while on the road when we’ve been travelling around New Zealand last year and I hope to continue travelling while freelancing for a long, long while. Follow these steps and you will be able to enjoy your holidays as well as keep that business of yours alive!
Let me know how you manage work + travel, I’d love to hear your tips!
