As many young people out there, I love to travel. I love getting lost in a foreign country, trying exotic cuisines and meeting exciting people. I believe it’s crucial to run away from time to time. Traveling can really help you to get out of your comfort zone and evaluate your life clearly. However, it can also be really expensive. To feel safe during your time away you’ll need to put some money away in order to enjoy yourself 100%. I’m currently saving up for a trip to USA and I thought you might find some of these tips on how to save money for a holiday pretty useful.
OPEN UP A SAVING ACCOUNT:
Me & the boy opened a joint saving account just when we started planning our trip to New Zealandand it really was a success. We usually transfer a set amount of money into a saving account at the end of the month and it now came to the point where I look at that as a rent payment- completely inevitable. First months can seem a bit tough, but you will get used to that after time and even if you’re not planning to go anywhere soon- the amount of money will keep growing and once you’re ready to go- you’ll be all set. Also, think about putting your money where it will earn interest, such as a term deposit or a savings account. These accounts will give you a higher rate of interest than regular transaction accounts. Investing your money is a great idea too, read more on it here →.
SELL: Do you really need those 5 cameras out there or that skiing kit that you only used once? Look around your home- you might find some things you can re-sell and give happiness to someone else. We tend to collect stuff when we settle down and it’s very unhealthy habit. Believe me, if you haven’t wore that dress you bought 2 years ago- you never will!
CUT BACK ON SPENDING: I know you love those nights in the pubs and eating out ( I do too) – but think about all the fun you’ll have while traveling. The more money you save- the more you’ll have to spend on your holiday. That Chinese take out around the corner will probably still be there when you’re back, so save some cash up for all exotic foods you’re going to try!
SAVE BIG COINS:
So this tip won’t help you to save up for a trip around the world, but every little helps. Remember having a jar for coins when you were a kid? You parents probably haven’t even noticed you collecting all the coins you found around the house and putting them in there. Why not to do the same when you’re an adult? Me & the boy made a deal last autumn to put all €2 coins into a glass and once it’s full- spend it on something fun. I don’t even think about this as saving anymore- it became more like a game for us! Make sure to keep your designated saving pot somewhere you can access easily, so you don’t forget!
PAY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN UP FRONT: Spending all that money at once can be painful, so try to pay for things as tickets/hotels/even entertainment before you go. Also, you can find much better deals when you book your holidays at least 3-4 months before. Try checking out some off season deals too- you can get a bargain and it’s way more fun to be surrounded by locals rather than thousands of other tourists. Travel portals like Expedia, Kayak and Priceline have the best deals going on all around the year. Do check them for current available offers. To save more, find for travel coupons at ChameleonJohn.com.
No matter which way you choose for saving up- you will be rewarded once you get on a plane and realise how many wonderful moments you’re going to have. So don’t look at this as a duty, saving for holiday is fun!
Let me know how you are saving for something you really want to happen!
