In life, I feel like I’ve won and lost at the same time. You see, it just so happens that I created a job for myself that I absolutely adore. This makes finding that work/life balance a bit more challenging on me & if you’re running your own business, you will understand…
No matter how you feel, at the end of the day, nobody cares about your failures or your achievements more than you do. Stop caring about what others might think about your life decisions. It’s your life. We can’t satisfy everyone, but true friends will understand.
If you’re in the season of your life where constant work seems to be the best option- embrace that. Inform your close ones that you need to hustle for a month or two, but make sure to set a deadline for this. I bet they will appreciate your time more when you can fully be with them without worrying about all those tasks that you couldn’t finish.
Likely, if you simply feel like you need a break- allow yourself to relax & don’t worry about your goals. Even if you feel pressured by your parents, your partner or anyone else- it’s not their decision.
After graduating from high school, I took a gap year and went to live in London where I stayed in the squat and made many questionable decisions. I knew my parents weren’t too happy about this, but I did it anyway. It ended up being one of the best decisions I made in my life & I’m so glad I’ve listened to myself rather than anyone else.
The reason I’m telling you this is because I want to explain how important it is to find what actually works for YOU, not for anyone else. Stop working too much if it doesn’t feel right & don’t feel bad about not spending enough time with your friends if you have the best deals landing in your business right now. Guilt is truly the reason behind the stress the stress that we feel and if noticed early, it can really be avoided.
It’s probably easier said than done, but this is the actual secret to the best possible life balance.
If you truly, deeply love yourself and admit that you are enough– you will never allow yourself to be overstressed, overworked and feel bad about it.
Trust me on this, to learn loving yourself could be the hardest thing that you will ever do, but it’s so worth it!
I will always be thankful for my boyfriend for truly teaching me to love outdoors.
As a teenager, I used to find my shield behind a depressive music, endless hours of staring at the screen or loud parties. It was all I lived for back then & felt pretty miserable.
As an adult, I now realize that the best way to truly switch off is to get yourself closer to nature.
There’s nothing else that makes me feel better about my life than a slow walk in the forest or swim in the lake on not so warm summer night.
Nature has this magic power of putting your minds in order. Use it.

Imagine, if you will, this scenario: A young couple is in the same household together. They are in the same room, but one of the partners is watching television in the living room, while the other is on the computer answering some e-mails. On occasion, they might share a few words with one another, but other than that, there’s not much interaction going on whatsoever. Thus, while it could be said that this couple is spending the time together, the question is, would you classify that time as quality? Probably not! The couple is not really paying attention to one another, and they are all doing their own thing.
If you currently feel particularly busy within your business, don’t just go and visit your loved ones to spend an afternoon answering the calls or e-mails on your phone. Inform them that you’re going to be a bit busier than usual during the time and arrange the date that works better for you. Now if you’ve made the promise- stick to it and whenever you’re ready to spend the quality time together- leave your phone behind and really listen to the needs of your loved ones. Quality over quantity. Always.
We can’t have the same balance in our life all year long. It’s natural.
I love being lazy & eating way too much during the Christmas madness just as much as I love spending long evenings working on new products during spring & autumn. Summer is all about living in the adventure for me & I can’t be bothered spending too much time in front of the screens then. You get the point. Every season is there for a reason & it’s OK to feel more sleepy during winter.
“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”- Henry David Thoreau.
I’m not a crazy flower-power lady just yet, but understanding this made my life so much easier.
