There’s a huge problem majority of the bloggers make when they start out. They tend to blog about everything without setting a definite niche for themselves. Of course, one might say that that’s exactly what lifestyle blogging is all about, but I couldn’t agree. Even if you want to blog about your life in general, I know for sure that there are some particular areas that you feel more knowledgeable in. Setting the right niche for your blog can do wonders for your overall online success. Let’s find you one!You might also like:
Not that long ago, I didn’t have a clear niche in mind for my own blog. I used to blog about food for a week then switching to fashion, then talking a bit about blog designs, then getting back to food once again. This didn’t feel right. When asked “What’s your blog about?” by friends & family, I simply couldn’t give them the right answer straight away. This made me feel less confident about my blog & my work in general.
About a year ago, I started sharing more & more posts about building, designing & launching blogs as I was constantly being bombarded by emails from my blog design clients. As I was able to give them a beautiful looking blog, they initially recognised me as an expert in blogging. At first, I wasn’t sure if I’m experienced enough to be teaching others how to blog, but after getting such an excellent feedback about my ‘blogging + biz tips’ from you guys- I felt like I finally found what I was looking for- my one an only niche. After that, life simply got easier.
Thus today, I’d love to share some of my insights on finding the right niche for your blog. I hope this post will help you get more focused & inspire you to become an expert in your chosen field, let’s go:
Your niche has to be something that you’re truly, deeply passionate about. It’s something that you could talk about forever without getting bored of it. Think about your hobbies, your guilty pleasures, your education. If you find the niche you seriously love, you will never run out of motivation or blog posts topics. If you blog about something you don’t believe in- your readers will know, so stop lying to them AND yourself.
Take your notebook & list five topics you think you could blog about. Now look at them again and leave only 2 (or if you’re brave- even one) that are super important to you. Here you go- you’ve narrowed your niche.
Now we all think we’re experts in one thing or another, but are we truly? Get in touch with your closest buddy and confirm those topics with them. Analyse their reactions or simply ASK. You might get confirmation on your topic which will only assure you that you’re on the right track. Listen to them. They might suggest a similar niche which might work out even better!
If you still cannot decide which niche is YOURS- play a simple game. Open Google Calendar and try to schedule your next blogging month for each topic. You can later actually use these blog posts ideas. By thinking about the actual blog posts you can write- you’ll see that one topic opens up your creativity more than the other. This is IT. This is the niche you’ll want to stick to!
Of course, of course, you should only blog for the purpose of helping others, but let’s not be naive. We all would love for our blogs to be profitable & there’s no shame in that. Think about your chosen niche & try to brainstorm some of the ways you could monetize your new, more focused posts. Now it’s the time to establish yourself as an expert in your chosen field. Not only you should focus on blogging about your selected topic, but you also must be sure that your niche is apparent in your overall online presence. Think about your niche whenever you’re snapping a new photo for Instagram or pinning a new Pin. Here’s a tip: you can always create secret boards on Pinterest if you use it for a lot of personal pins. When it comes to building a successful presence- you should really stick to your chosen field all over the place.
Of course, don’t forget to have fun! If you feel like that selfie fits into your message- go ahead and post it! You’re your own boss, embrace that!
Let me know if you have a hard time sticking to one niche- I’d love to help you get more focused!
