If you’ve ever wondered how to make money blogging, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, I will outline how I make money as a blogger & what helps me get a steady paycheck every single month.

Most people don’t even realize that a blog is something you can make a full-time income with. I started my blog in 2012 and I treated it as a hobby for a long time. It all changed once I started helping a blogging community with my blog design services. My world was shaken by the idea that someone would pay me for doing something I still get goosebumps from. Creating a blog was the best decision I ever made & I’m so excited to be able to tell you how exactly I’m monetizing my blog.
Alright, let’s dive in…
So this is pretty obvious. If you’ve been following by blog for a while, you will know that I feel particularly excited about beautiful blog designs. For this reason, I created my shop where I sell premade Blogger templates, WordPress Themes & offer Custom Design Services. As you can see from my Q1 Blog + Biz Report I make 87% of my income through design services.
During my blogging career, I realised that offering high-quality products to readers is THE way to making a blog profitable. If you just started your blog & plan to make a full-time salary from sidebar ads, you should know that relying on your traffic for income is a mistake.
What you should think of instead is creating something that could benefit your audience. It doesn’t have to be a blog template or even a digital file. If you’re a fashion blogger, you can offer your styling services or paid blog consultation. You can sell your old clothes or design some t-shirts that your followers will love. Sky has no limits, friend!
From time to time, I would include an affiliate link into my blog posts. This refers to times when I suggest services/goods here on kotrynabass.com and someone purchases the product through my link, giving me a small commission in return.
I’m very selective in services/products I recommend and I would never in my life suggest my readers to buy something I don’t truly believe in. Of course, the quality of some brands might change during the time. If this happens I would go back to my old posts and change links to make sure I’m not associated with that brand anymore.
For example, I used to recommend one of the internet hosting companies that back in the day were a blast to work with. After two years of me using their services, the company was bought by a large corporation & their customer services became generic and seriously bad. You won’t be able to find even a single link to that brand anymore here on the blog these days. This stuff happens, friends, we can’t control it.

I get emails from fashion & tech companies all the time suggesting me to review their products & offering me a commission. Most of the times these products would have nothing to do with my brand and of course I would turn those offers down. Other times, these would be brands I’ve been loving for years and I have no shame in featuring these products on my blog or Instagram.
I also loved Jen’s idea of sponsoring your own blog with your business. This basically means that I write helpful posts and tutorials for my community where I promote my own services. If you’re your own boss, you can also be your own sponsor, right?

Now you might wonder how giving stuff away brings me any income, but it really does!
I look at my freebies as a preview to the services I offer. If my readers start using my free blogger template & they need an upgrade, they would be more willing to actually buy something from my shop as they already got a chance to try out my goods.
My content upgrades are also turning my visitors into subscribers and that helps my business big time. Research firm Nielsen Norman Group asked respondents how they preferred to receive company updates, and 90 percent cited newsletters, compared to 10 percent for social media. I personally am a subscriptions addict & receiving newsletters from my favourite brands caused some unexpected, but very pleasant purchases.
Yay, freebie time!
