Post our Brighton trip, we couldn’t leave the UK without visiting London at least for a bit!
Just after high school, I fell in love with my now fiance Tomas and we both moved to London after only a few months of knowing each other. Looking back now, it all seems a bit crazy & getting back to this marvellous city brought all the memories back.
It was 2010 and I really felt lost. I already had a place granted at the University of Sussex, yet I wasn’t sure if going to university was what I really wanted to do. I felt this pressure from my parents, teachers, society in general and to say it gently, I can’t handle stress well enough. I needed to escape and find some space to breath again. For this reason, I decided to take a gap year and have all the fun I need while living with the love of my life in London. It wasn’t easy, but I’m so glad I’ve got guts within me to go for it!
We first lived in the squat in the south part of the city where we’ve made friends with a bunch of weird, but loving souls. After six months or so, we decided to move up north and settled in the beautiful Cricklewood area with a couple of our closest friends. I worked in Camden Town at the time and to say the least- this really was one of the most adventurous times in my youth. Not only it showed me what hard work really is, I also got to have loads of fun, meet people from all over the world and really have that year to remember.
I now find myself being a huge supporter when it comes to gap years. From where I stand, you don’t even need to have a degree to achieve success, so going to university shouldn’t be something you must do. It should be something you really want to do. If you don’t feel like it at the moment- that’s completely OK. Feel free to take a break and enjoy your gap year. Move abroad, start a blog, fall in love, discover your passions and just live your life to the fullest. Not only you will end up having loads of fun, if you do decide to go to uni after all (just as I did), you will be 100% certain that it was YOUR decision.
It wouldn’t be a post from Kotryna without a bit of a motivational rambling, haha!
Let’s get down to those pictures I took tho! I know that’s why you came here in the first place :)
