The idea of making our own cider at home have been with us for ages now. I always found this quite romantic and could imagine myself living in a countryside and being a pro at this. I’ll hold my horses for now, as this is just our first try, but fingers crossed it will succeed! so the cider is bubbling on the window. we have to wait a couple of weeks till it’s ready to be bottled and this is what we done so far.
First step you wanna do is washing and drying your equipment as well as your hands. Everything has to be as clean as possible. We actually ordered whole cider making kit from ebay which also included sterilising tablet, but I bet you can find other alternatives.
So once your equipment is all cleaned up and dry, start pouring your apple juices. We used natural apple juice that my parents made themselves, with no preservatives which I think are the best ones to use.
We also mixed some sugar in one of the smaller glasses and mixed it up with the rest of the juices.
Then- it was time to add some yeast into juices and mix it all up a little.
You know have to leave this to develop in a warm place. We also added some spirit into the bubbler. Make sue to use a lid to close your bubbler, this is only for keeping the cider safe from dust, it doesn’t have to be airtight. So now then it’s all done it’s important not to:
Don’t shake it!
Don’t move it if possible.
Don’t interfere with it.
Leave those yeasties alone. Mother nature will do her work.
As the next couple of weeks go on, the bubbling should slow down and finally stop. Once it had completely stopped and the liquid in the bubbler is in level again it should be ready to be drunk. Hopefully this all will turn out fine. We will update you on our success or failure!
Fingers crossed!
Talk to you soon.
