To increase your blog’s traffic you don’t necessarily have to keep publishing new content. Instead, you can upgrade your old blog posts and let me show you how.
Adding large + branded Pinterest-worthy images into your posts can do wonders for your traffic. Pinterest to me is the main source of referral traffic & I make sure to pin all of my posts as well as create graphical promo images for each of them. Take a look at this board dedicated to my blog’s content to see what I have in mind.
2. Create SEO Friendly Blog Post Titles
It’s OK to re-write your old blog post titles. If you feel like they’re not helping your SEO ranking- go ahead and change them.
3. Make Sure Your Content Is Still Relevant
Things change. Life happens. Opinions might shift the other way or a useful tip you shared a year ago might no longer make any sense. Go ahead & edit your old posts in order to have the most relevant content on your blog.
4. Use Keywords
Including relatable keywords to your old posts is a great way to boost your blog’s traffic. If you’re not sure where you should include those, read this post: 7 Effective SEO Tips For Bloggers
5. Link Back To Your Other Posts
Your readers should be able to go through your content smoothly. In time, you will notice that some of your posts might be able to fulfil each other. Including links to relevant posts is a great idea to quickly update your old blog posts.
6. Improve Your Pictures
The blogosphere is extremely visible these days. Using high-quality images can improve your blog’s content big time. If you’re not sure how you can improve your blog photography skills, this post is for you.
7. Clean Up Your Comments
We all get spammy comments. It sucks, I know. Spend some time cleaning up your comment area from all those irrelevant messages. Nobody wants to see them.
8. Remove Broken Links
You cannot control other people’s content. The post you have linked in the past might no longer be available. Thus the link you have previously added would lead to an error page and that’s obviously not the best thing. You have to remove all of those broken links from your old posts not only for the sake of your readers but also for your SEO. If you’re using WordPress- you can install this plugin that will make things way easier for you.
9. Improve Readability
If you’ve been blogging for a while now, your writing skills are probably way better than they used to be. Be an editor of your own. Keep your paragraphs & sentences short. Create paragraphs for your posts & make sure to check your spelling while you’re on it.
10. Re-promote
Your old blog posts are just as share-worthy as your new ones. Use blog scheduling tools to plan your social media feeds for sharing your old content. Don’t be surprised if re-used posts even do better in stats now than they did back in the day. Maybe the timing just wasn’t right.
