Lack of money shouldn’t be an excuse for you to wait until you start marketing your business properly. Here are 7 absolute free ways to market yourself without spending a single penny.
In January 1996, Bill Gates wrote an essay titled “Content is King”, which was published on the Microsoft website. “Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet”- he said & boy was he right! “If people are to be expected to put up with turning on a computer to read a screen, they must be rewarded with deep and extremely up-to-date information that they can explore at will.”- Gates continued and could argue with this guy even twelve years since the essay was first published.
Creating high-quality, engaging content your tribe is looking for can be the best free way to market yourself and your business online. Just make sure you’re taking your blog seriously, commit, really re-think your purpose and strategies, ignore the haters, create beautiful online content & it will pay off!
Being active on social media is the best way to bring the most engaged audience to your website. I personally focus on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest & Facebook. However, you can definitely get awesome results from other platforms if you analyze & use them properly. It’s really up to you to decide but make sure to register your accounts as soon as possible & secure those unique usernames.
However, if you’re just starting out, I would suggest focussing on only 1 or 2 platforms tho! You can add more as you go along, but for now- work on the ones you feel you can do best at!

Growing together can make things a bit easier, so whatever your niche is- look for Facebook groups, Twitter chats or forums that might be bringing like-minded creatives together. My favorite Facebook groups I mostly hang out at are Instagram Posse, Women Biz Owners & FBL.
It’s always a great idea to go ahead and spread some love by commenting on other creators’ posts, social media entries or even e-mailing those that you feel that instant online connection with. Trust me, you need friends in this journey & online entrepreneur buddies are the best! Who knows- they might share your work on their channels and spread the word about you.
If you find an online creator that inspires you and has a great following- go ahead and offer your help. There’s no better way to market yourself than through the word of mouth and whatever your services or products are- I bet others would be happy to try & recommend it to their communities. Just go ahead and ask, the worst that can happen is someone will say ‘ no ‘.
Sometimes, especially at the beginning of our entrepreneurship journey, we tend to be a bit shy about what we’re selling. This is a huge mistake. Go ahead and introduce yourself to your social media bios, be open about the work that you can do and don’t be afraid to set your pricing.
There’s a huge problem the majority of the online creators make when they start out. They tend to write about everything without setting a definite niche for themselves. If you want to grow, setting the clear niche for your online presence can do wonders for your overall online success.
Back when I’ve started, I used to publish content online about EVERY SINGLE THING and that kept me back from properly monetizing and spreading the word about my work. I have since realized that my passion is in teaching others on establishing successful online businesses. By determining my niche I now know what content works for my audience and what strategies I can use in order to monetize my online presence.
The next time someone asks you ‘so..what’s your blog/website/shop about?’ you need to give them a clear answer. Also, you have to know that running a ‘beauty blog’ is too broad and it will make your journey a lot harder. Think about what beauty products really rock your world, do you love supporting organic beauty brands or perhaps you’re all about luxurious beauty products? Find your niche and stick to it!

I truly think that my biggest mistake is not building my mailing list earlier. I only started sending out weekly newsletters a month ago. Even though it hasn’t been that long, I can already see the huge improvement in the relations with my readers & customers. I started receiving responses via email with questions and business enquiries. I love helping people and I love to see them comfortable to get in touch and start the communication.
EVERYONE has an email address now (everyone, except my dad, of course). I don’t know about you, but I check my inbox at least 3-4 times a day. Email marketing seriously the easiest way to be noticed and get people to come back to your website.
