We all have excuses, I know. It’s easy to fall into your own lies and always find a reason to explain why you still haven’t gotten any closer towards your dreams. Perhaps the time has come to talk less and do more? If you’re telling yourself any of these seven lies, you’re most probably holding yourself back from reaching your full potential and deep down you know it too…
7 Lies You’re Telling Yourself That Hold You Back From Reaching Your Full Potential
#1 “I don’t have enough time”. Out of all lies, this is probably one of the biggest. If you have time for watching Netflix, you definitely have time for taking an e-course, a book or simply registering a new domain name. I’m not saying you should quit your job and pursue your dream as a small business right away, but you definitely have an hour here and there to put in towards building your dream. Stop telling yourself otherwise. If you do feel overwhelmed by the work that you do and your time management, go ahead and grab Tim Ferris’s “4-hour-work-week”, it gives you a great introduction on how you can do less and achieve more at the same time.
#2 “I don’t have enough money”. Well, the good news is, it’s 2018. You don’t need to invest a huge chunk of money to get your new business going, not at all. In fact, the majority of the online business can be started online for only a few bucks a month. I started my own business as a jobless student, living in a foreign country and it all turned out better than I could have ever expected.
#3 “I don’t know the right people”. The most stupid thing you can do in your life is to chase peoople. Just be yourself, do what you do best and be ready to work hard. The right people will find you, these are the people that actually belong in your life.
#4 “I will do it tomorrow/next week/month/year”. No, you won’t & you know it. All you need to do is just start, you can take the tiniest step today, so what’s the point in waiting? Here’s why, if I get a client that is planning to take months in advance to plan their project ahead, I always encourage them to at least register a website/blog today, it only takes 5 minutes, but it makes all the difference. You see, once you have actually started, you already have more chances in succeeding, it’s that simple!
#5 “I’m too old/young”. Seriously? In 1987, Teiichi Igarashi, a former lumberjack who had been climbing Mt. Fuji every year since he was 89 years old, became the first centenarian to climb Japan’s tallest mountain. He was 100 years at the time. Do you still like the age can be a factor to achieve anything? It’s all in your head, my friend.
#6 “I need a degree to do this”. Not anymore, I assure you. Well unless you want to be a heart surgeon, in all means, go ahead and get a degree. However, in most over cases, you can get by quite alright with putting enough effort into taking the right courses, visiting conferences and spending all the time you have in order to achieve the skills needed.
#7 “It’s all about the luck”. Heck no. Don’t get me wrong, luck is great. Of course, we all simply get lucky every once in a while, but you should never focus on it. Instead, work hard, be nice to others and you will make your own luck.
Don’t be shy, let me know if any of these lies apply to you! :)
