I see this all the time- bloggers providing wonderful online content & still struggling to make a single penny out if it. The thing is- they’re not taking the right approach towards monetizing their online presence. If you’re currently struggling to start making a living from your blog- this post is for you.
I get it, you think that the more monthly page views you’ll get- the more money you’re going to make. That makes sense, but let me tell you a thing about my business. Back when I started making money online my audience consisted of about 100 people. Considering that 50% of that number was my friends, family members + acquaintances, it’s not a huge figure to start at. However, I didn’t want to wait for a magic number of page views or followers count. I worked my butt off & didn’t care that someone might consider my blog to be too small for sponsorship opportunities. I reached out to brands, I offered my services, instead of waiting- I just went for it!
You Use Sidebar Ads
Let me tell you the truth- if you think you’re going to make your first salary from sidebar ads- you will not. I’ve been using Google ads for my first year in blogging, and all I ever made was around $20 which is crazy. Back then, I was already making a full-time income from my blog & I finally decided to get rid of them completely. Of course, if you’re in an affiliate programme or have an actual company paying you to place their logo on your blog- that’s fine. It might work great when you have established your audience already, but for the first year- I’d suggest concentrating on other ways. Read: How Exactly I Make Money Blogging?
Your Blog Doesn’t Look Professional
Just as in any other business, you have to represent yourself professionally if you want to start earning money online. You have to stop telling your readers to leave your blog. Your branding is the FIRST thing people see when they arrive at your website. You HAVE TO make sure it’s on point. You even don’t have to spend thousands of dollars branding your online space, simply join my Free 7 day E-course: Design Your Own Blog.
You Don’t Have a Strategy
If you want to start making a living online you can’t just sit there and wait until the money rolls in. Create yourself a strategy & stick to your plan. You can set yourself a number such as how many brands you’re going to reach out to throughout the week or how many guest posting opportunities you’ll try to get by the end of the month. Be realistic, but make sure to challenge yourself. You should also decide how many times a week you’re going to publish new content. For example, I usually post 2-3 times a week on Mondays + Wednesdays or Fridays. Having a schedule makes you look more trustworthy.
You Haven’t Established Yourself as an Expert
Whatever your niche is- you should show your expertise in the field before you can start getting clients. Blog passionately, use social media & simply don’t forget to be yourself. By posting regularly, you can convince your target market that you understand enough about your field. This should be your number one goal.
Alrighty, folks! Hope you enjoyed this post. Let me know if you’re already making money from your blog! What worked for you so far?
